At a time of global unrest, a single country is hard to settle down all by own efforts. If we parallel the Zhou dynasty with the globe, the Wei state(魏国) described in this poem is the troubled country, agitated by conflicts between its neighbour states, among its own people. This poem is the day dream of a hopeless Wei people, he dreams for a utopia. It either condemn the cruel lord of Wei, it definitely reflected a harsh time.
